The seminars are open to anyone interested in taking part of scientific breakthroughs and projects in the medicine and health science field. Scientists, students and other staff from GU, VGR and other organisations with the common interest of medicine and health science, welcome!
Topic:
The telomere is a nucleo-protein structure that protects chromosome ends from being recognized as DNA damage. Loss of functional telomeres leads to end-to-end chromosome fusion, which causes various chromosome and cellular abnormalities.
In this seminar, I will summarize a vital function of telomere and the consequences of its failure. Mainly, I want to discuss 1) mitotic arrest induced by chromosome fusions and 2) the development of a new tool called FuVis (Fusion visualization system) to analyze the fate of a distinct sister chromatid fusion at Xp chromosome ends.
