How could microwaves improve healthcare in such various areas as stroke, breast cancer diagnostics, hyperthermia cancer treatment, and trauma?
Andreas Fhager, associate professor at Chalmers and MedTech West, is leading the research group in biomedical electromagnetics focusing on microwave technology at Chalmers University of Technology. In this presentation, Andreas will give an introduction to the field of microwaves in healthcare applications. He will also describe the research activities conducted by his group to develop these and other applications into practical clinical systems that will be able to benefit lots of patients in a close future.
Early next year, the plan is to have some of these technologies available for clinical testing in a research lab inside of the Image and Intervention Centre (BoIC) at Sahlgrenska University Hospital. The building of the collaborative research lab for biomedical engineering research and development is an initiative driven by MedTech West, financed in part by the Regional Development Fund (Tillväxtverket). The plan is to start the building of the research lab in fall 2020, and to have the lab up and running in the beginning of next year. In this facility there will also be other techniques, such as magnetencefalography (MEG), available for clinical tests.
After the seminar, we will be serving a light lunch to registered participants. Sign up at the latest on Friday 14 January at 12:00. Welcome!
