Akademiliv congratulates Ola Rolfson, who is appointed Professor of orthopedics at the Institute of Clinical Sciences and succeeds Professor Helena Brisby as Head of the Department of Orthopedics. He is a consultant in orthopedics with a special focus on arthroplasty. Since 2017, Ola has been responsible for the Swedish Hip Prosthesis Register, a national quality register that has been an international pioneer in monitoring, evaluating and improving the quality of care. The register analyzes and reports to the healthcare system so that the methods and implants that have been shown to give the best long-term results are used. By combining information from different quality registers and other health data registers, additional knowledge can be gained that leads to improvements in care. Currently, exciting work is underway to consolidate the Hip and Knee Prosthesis Registry into a register. Ola is also involved in the development of randomized clinical trials based on quality registers.
In addition to the quality register work, Ola’s research interests include patient-reported outcomes, epidemiology, implant-related infections, arthritis school, healthcare processes and management in healthcare, financial evaluation of health, statistical methods, cartilage lubrication and radio-stereometric analysis of implants.
