Medical Students who spends time on any kind of art becomes more empathetic, and also doesn’t get burnt out as much. This is shown in a new study with 739 medical students at five different programs in the US. The students answered a survey about, among other things, how much they engage in any kind of arts and humanities, and how they value their qualities and their mental state on different scales. The researchers highlight that physicians today often focus on symptoms, but sometimes have to take in the entire patient’s story to help in the best possible way.
