Johan Bengtsson-Palme, Assistant Professor at the Department of Infectious Diseases at the Institute of Biomedicine, and who heads a research project on biodiversity, has recently been granted funding for large-scale sequencing through the SciLifeLab National Sequencing Projects. The study focuses on how the genetic composition of the bacterium affects their ability to infiltrate an established biofilm. Johan travels shortly to the US, where he will perform the experimental work in the lab belonging to Professor Jo Handelsman at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The bacterial DNA samples will later be returned to Sweden to be sequenced in SciLifeLab’s infrastructure.
