SELECTION OF NEW VICE CHANCELLOR. There will be three candidates progressing to the next stage in the recruitment of new Vice-Chancellor of the University of Gothenburg. The decision was made by the University Board at its meeting on Tuesday, November 29.
The three final candidates are Eva Wiberg, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Lund University, Peter Aronsson, Pro Vice Chancellor at Linnaeus University and Ole Petter Ottersen, Vice Chancellor of the University of Oslo.
– They are all three very highly qualified principal candidates with experience leading large academic organizations, says University Chairman Cecilia Schelin Seidegård.
Of the original 16 candiates, nine were brought in for interviews that resulted in three final candidates. The three candidates will be presented and heared by the hearing assembly. All three candidates will be present when the hearing assembly meets on December 15.
Here is a brief presentation of the three final candidates:
Eva Wiberg is Pro Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Lund University with responsibility for education, quality assurance and internationalization. She is a professor of Italian and took her doctorate in Lund in 1997 on bilingualism of the Swedish-Italian children. Eva Wiberg has extensive international experience and has been Director General of the global cooperation agency Universitas 21. She grew up in Italy and has been heptathlon practitioners on elite level.
Peter Aronsson is Pro Vice-Chancellor at Linnaeus University with responsibility for cooperation and development of the University’s research strategy. He is a professor of history and received his doctorate in this subject in Lund in 1992. His research areas including democracy and society, as well as cultural heritage and regional development. Peter Aronsson has experience in large national and international research projects. In the 1990s he was active in efforts to transform Växjö college into a university. Peter Aronsson is an inborn Småland resider, and his famiy has a history of running small business.
Ole Petter Ottersen is Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oslo since 2009. He is a Professor of Medicine and received his doctorate in Oslo in 1982. Ole Petter Ottersen has been PI for many large national and international research projects. He has also held several international positions of trust, including participation as an expert in several university evaluations. Ole Petter Ottersen has two honorary doctorates, from the University of Kuopio in Finland and Doctor École Normale Supérieure in Lyon, France. He is interested in art and loves to run in both the forest and in the mountains.
The hearing assembly advises the University Board, which ultimately will determine which of the final candidates that will be proposed to the government. The University Board will decide on its candidates on January 10, 2017. The new Vice-Chancellor will be installed on July 1, 2017.
