Welcome to the Sahlgrenska Academy Science Seminars, a series of seminars on Thursdays at 15-16. The seminars are, during spring 2021, conducted through Zoom Webinars.
The seminars are open to anyone interested in taking part of scientific breakthroughs and projects in the medicine and health science field. Scientists, students and other staff from GU, VGR and other organisations with the common interest of medicine and health science, welcome!
Topic:
Julia Morud Lekholm’s research is focused on understanding basic concepts that govern fast neurotransmission, which is a fundamental and conserved feature of all animal nervous systems. She is particularly interested in how this is a determining factor for sensory transduction – translation of information from the outside world into behavioral responses. The protein family of ligand-gated ion channels (LGCs) play an important part for maintaining and regulating fast neurotransmission. She will present recent efforts trying to identify the endogenous ligand for several orphan LGCs from the nematode C. elegans, and how this helps us to in high detail investigate molecular components of memory formation and the transduction of signals in a minimal nervous system.
