Welcome to the Sahlgrenska Academy Science Seminars – SAS-seminars, a series of seminars on Thursdays at 15-16. The seminars are, during fall 2020, conducted through Zoom Webinars.
The seminars are open to anyone interested in taking part of scientific breakthroughs and projects in the medicine and health science field, scientists, students and other staff from GU, VGR and other organisations with the common interest of medicine and health science.
Topic:
Associate Professor Fredrik Westerlund’s research group uses state-of-the-art modern nanotechnology for studies of single molecules, with a main focus on DNA. Modern nanotechnology and single molecule techniques have revolutionized biophysics, and potential applications in diagnostics and medicine are becoming more and more realistic. The DNA investigating activities of the Westerlund group are sponsored by the European Research Council, the Swedish Research Council, The Swedish Child Cancer Foundation, The Swedish Cancer Foundation, and Knut and Alice Wallenbergs Stiftelse.
Main research areas include development of optical DNA mapping assay developed in the Westerlund lab and the use of nanochannels to study DNA-protein interactions.
