This is my car in the photo. I would like to hear from anyone who supports this statement below and/or that has had a fine for parking there.
On 13 Feburary, I parked in this small car park, in a space where I have parked frequently over 17 years (maybe 1-2 times per month). The space where I parked and received the fine is always occupied by a car on week days. It turns out that the reason I got this fine is because the company say that it is not a proper parking space. This is a surprise because, in all of the years that I have parked there, I have never before got a parking fine. Not even parking wardens have realized it is not a proper parking space until now. It is also a surprise because it looks like a parking space: there is a white line on either side of the space (that is identical to all other lines in this car park for all other spaces), a car can easily fit into the space, there are no different marking (eg white lines or similar) that are different from other neighbouring parking spaces, there are no notices or pillars or anything else. It looks exactly like the spaces on either side. The only difference is that it is slightly smaller, but you have to be extremely observant to notice this. Besides, if your car fits into the space, the thought does not occur that this is not a proper space. The only other “clue” is that there is a pedestrian path on the other side of a broken hedge. It is to be emphasized that this pedestrian path is not marked as pedestrian and is not a thoroughfare (ie mostly people using this car park) that likely use the path. Besides, there is plenty of room to access the pedestrian path even if a car in parked in the space where I got my fine. In the unlikely event that people have the idea to question whether this is a real parking space (which I never did for 17 years), we are made to guess and if we guess wrong then we get a parking fee.
I have asked the company to mark the space as pedestrian and sent them photos of a nearby parking space which is properly marked as an example. I said that they should not have issued a fine unless the space has some proper indication (eg a crossed white lime or pillar to mark it as pedestrian). Currently my fine stands and they do not plan to change the markings as far as I understand.
Since getting the fine, I notice that cars park in that spot unaware that it is not a parking spot every day. I wanted to warn everyone. Moreover, if I take up the challenge of getting them to mark the space properly to avoid fines, I hope to get your support.
I parked in the space in question in good faith and could never have imagined there is any doubt that it is anything other than a real space.
